A Urine culture test is a significant diagnostic tool that is used to detect and identify the Bacteria and Yeasts in the Urine. These organisms are responsible for causing UTI. Small number of Bacteria and Yeasts, which enter the Urinary Tract from the Skin, proliferate and multiply in the Urine to cause UTIs.
If you experience signs of a Urinary Tract Infection (UTI), such as discomfort or burning when urinating, murky or strong-smelling Urine, or Lower Back Pain, your doctor may advise you on a urine culture. Certain Sexually Transmitted Infections (STDs) can be identified by urine testing. But for adult STDs, a urine culture is not the recommended test. Urine testing can be used to screen for certain STDs, such as chlamydia, but this method does not involve culturing the virus—rather, it detects genetic material from the pathogen.
