Assessment of circulating vitamin K1 concentration. Vitamin K is required as a cofactor for the synthesis of Factors II, VII, IX & X and protein C & S. Deficiency leads to bleeding. Warfarin acts as an anticoagulant because it is a Vitamin K antagonist.
Aluminum foil should be used to shield samples from light. It is required to fast for at least 8 hours. 24 hours before sample collection, refrain from consuming liver or taking vitamin K or multivitamin supplements.
