Copper is an essential element that is a cofactor of many enzymes. Copper metabolism is disturbed in Wilsons disease, Menkes disease, Primary Biliary Cirrhosis and Indian childhood cirrhosis. Urinary copper concentrations are also used to monitor patients on chelation therapy.
