FLUID EXAMINATION

Overview

A physical examination is performed to look for appearance and color, followed by microscopic examination to look for WBC count, RBC count, and differential WBC count, to determine whether fluid is transudate or exudate. Additionally, biochemical and microbiological analyses may be conducted to further assess the nature of the fluid and underlying conditions.
