α-Glucosidases facilitate digestion of complex starches, oligosaccharides, and disaccharides into monosaccharides, allowing them to be absorbed from the small intestine. α-Glucosidase inhibitors are competitive, reversible inhibitors of intestinal α-glucosidases. Acarbose also inhibits α-amylase.
