G-6PD (QUALITATIVE)

Overview

The G6PD Qualitative test checks for the presence or absence of glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G6PD) enzyme activity in red blood cells. This enzyme plays a crucial role in protecting RBCs from damage by harmful byproducts. A deficiency in G6PD, often found in males and carried by females, can lead to hemolysis, especially after exposure to infections or certain medications, resulting in anemia. This test helps identify individuals at risk of G6PD deficiency.
