Adequate saturation (The swab has absorbed sufficient specimen)

Preparations Required

The patient should avoid eating, drinking, gargling, or using antiseptic mouthwashes for at least 2 hours prior to sample collection, if feasible. The procedure should be explained to the patient, and informed consent obtained. Any prior or ongoing antibiotic therapy should be mentioned on the test request form, as it may affect staining results.
