Preparations Required

The specimen required is a 24-hour urine collection: discard the first morning urine, then collect all urine for the next 24 hours, including the first urine of the following morning. Urine should be collected in a laboratory-supplied container with preservative (if provided), kept refrigerated or on ice throughout the collection period, and the total urine volume must be recorded. An adequate collection is essential; incomplete or improperly stored specimens may invalidate results. The completed sample should be transported promptly to the laboratory according to local guidelines.
