Overview

Electrocardiogram testing also known as ECG testing is a non-invasive diagnostic technique that gauges the Hearts electrical activity over a predetermined time frame. Electrodes are applied to the skin during this test to pick up electrical signals generated by the Hearts beat. For the detection of Arrhythmias Heart attacks and other Cardiac abnormalities Electrocardiograms (ECGs) are essential. It gives medical professionals useful information about Heart rate rhythm and general Heart function empowering them to make well-informed decisions regarding diagnosis and treatment. ECG testing is essential for both routine health examinations and emergency assessments due to its rapid results and user-friendliness. Before an ECG patients should avoid Caffeine heavy meals and vigorous exercise for at least 30 minutes and ensure the chest area is clean and free of lotions or oils. The following details will help you understand about the best ECG in Jaipur.

What is the ECG ?

Among its many vital purposes, the ECG test monitors the electrical activity of the heart to spot arrhythmias, checks for evidence of past heart attacks, and evaluates the general health of the heart. It assists medical professionals in assessing the heart's rate and rhythm, which helps them make treatment decisions for a range of cardiac disorders. A crucial tool in cardiovascular care, ECGs can also help to diagnose structural abnormalities and electrolyte imbalances.

What Is The Purpose of the ECG ?

The purpose of the ECG includes:
  • Quickly and effectively diagnose typhoid fever by detecting the presence of IgM and IgG antibodies against Salmonella typhi.
  • This test helps identify a recent or active infection (indicated by IgM antibodies) or past exposure and immunity (indicated by IgG antibodies).
  • By providing rapid results, the test allows healthcare providers to initiate timely treatment and management of typhoid fever, particularly in endemic areas or during outbreaks, ensuring better patient outcomes.

When is an ECG Recommended ?

ECG is generally recommended if the patient is suffering from following symptoms:
  • Chest pain
  • Breathlessness
  • Dizziness
  • Tiredness
  • A flutter or skip in your heartbeat.
  • A fast heartbeat

Preparation for ECG

  • Avoid Stimulants: Refrain from consuming caffeine, alcohol, or nicotine for at least 24 hours before the test, as these can affect heart rate and rhythm.
  • Dress Comfortably: Wear loose-fitting clothing to facilitate easy access to the chest area. You may be asked to remove clothing from the waist up.
  • Clean Skin: Ensure the chest area is clean and free from lotions, oils, or powders, as these substances can interfere with electrode adhesion and signal quality.
  • Relax: Arrive at the appointment calm and relaxed, as anxiety can elevate heart rate and impact results.
  • Inform Healthcare Provider: Inform the technician of any medications you are taking or if you have any medical conditions, as these may be relevant to your test results.

What is the Cost of an ECG ?

The Price of an ECG is Rs. 200. However, cost of the test may fluctuate depending on following factors:
  • Other tests advised along with ECG
  • Offers or discounts
  • Empanelment of the patient

Components of ECG

  • ECG: An EKG test is a quick and simple method to determine whether you have a heart condition. An Electrocardiogram test is quick and painless, but it can tell your doctor whether you've had a Heart attack, Heart failure, or Heart damage. It can also tell them how well your pacemaker is functioning or whether your heart rhythm is abnormal.

Interpreting the ECG Results

Interpreting ECG results involves analyzing the electrical activity of the heart, which is displayed as a series of waves and intervals on the ECG graph:
  • P Wave: It symbolizes the depolarisation of the atrium. While abnormal P waves may indicate atrial enlargement or other problems, normal P waves show normal atrial function.
  • QRS Complex: Ventricular repolarization is reflected in QRS. Whereas a wide QRS complex can indicate ventricular hypertrophy or a conduction block, a narrow complex shows normal conduction through the ventricles.
  • T Wave: Shows that the ventricles have depolarised. T wave abnormalities may indicate problems like electrolyte imbalances or ischaemia.
  • PR Interval: It is the interval of time between the onset of ventricular and atrial depolarisation. A heart block could be indicated by a prolonged PR interval, whereas Wolff-Parkinson-White syndrome could be suggested by a shortened interval.
  • QT Interval: It determines the duration of the ventricles' depolarisation and repolarisation. An extended QT interval may make arrhythmias more likely.
  • Heart Rate: A normal resting heart rate is between 60 and 100 beats per minute, as determined by the ECG. Tachycardia (fast heart rate) or bradycardia (slow heart rate) may be signs of underlying medical conditions.

How is the ECG Done ?

The expert will attach 12 electrodes with adhesive pads to the skin on your chest, arms and legs. If your hair gets in the way, your service provider might shave it to improve the connection. The test and electrode attachment take around ten minutes, but the actual recording takes only a few seconds.
