Systemic Sclerosis (SSc) belongs to the collagenoses, a group of autoimmune connective tissue diseases which affect the skin and internal organs. Approximately 2-50 of 100,000 people suffer from SSc worldwide. The incidence amounts to 1-2 new cases per 100,000 people per year. The disease occurs mainly in middle adulthood.
