The presence of cervical lymph node metastasis reduces survival of patients with squamous carcinoma of the upper aerodigestive tract by up to 50%. the radical neck dissection (RND) has remained the criterion standard for excision of cervical nodal metastases resulting from head and neck cancer. The RND remained the mainstay of cervical lymphadenectomy procedures for the treatment of most patients with regionally metastatic head and neck cancer.
