Overview
The High-Sensitivity C-Reactive Protein (hs-CRP) test detects low levels of CRP in the blood, helping assess chronic inflammation and the risk of heart disease and stroke. It is especially useful in identifying cardiovascular risks even when other markers appear normal. Elevated hs-CRP levels may indicate underlying vascular issues, guiding lifestyle changes or treatment decisions?
What is the HS-CRP Test ?
C-Reactive Protein (CRP) is a biomarker of inflammation. Serum CRP concentrations increase rapidly and dramatically (100-fold or more) in response to tissue injury or inflammation. High-sensitivity CRP (hs-CRP) is more precise than standard CRP when measuring baseline (ie, normal) concentrations and enables a measure of chronic inflammation. Atherosclerosis is an inflammatory disease and hs-CRP has been endorsed by multiple guidelines as a biomarker of atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease risk. The hsCRP result has prognostic utility in patients with acute coronary syndrome and is a strong independent predictor of future coronary events in apparently healthy individuals. Ref. Value:> or =18 years: <2.0 mg/L.
What is the Purpose of the HS-CRP Test ?
An HS-CRP Test can be advised by your doctor for following reasons:
- Diagnosis: An HS-CRP Test by itself cannot diagnose illnesses because it might be abnormal for a variety of health issues. An HS-CRP Test, however, may assist in the detection of infections, autoimmune illnesses, blood abnormalities, kidney disease, and many other health problems.
- Monitoring: Periodically, an HS-CRP Test may be performed to monitor changes in inflammatory health conditions throughout time. It can also be used to evaluate how well a patient is responding to particular types of therapies.
When is an HS-CRP Test Recommended ?
This Test of recommended if you have or suspected to have following symptoms or conditions:
- Coronary Artery Disease (CAD)
- Atherosclerosis
- Heart attack (Myocardial infarction)
- Stroke
- Peripheral Artery Disease (PAD)

Preparation for HS-CRP Test
- Unless otherwise directed by your doctor, there is no need for you to make any special preparations before the HS-CRP Test.
- Other blood tests can be carried out in addition to a HS-CRP Test. If your doctor advises you to have multiple tests at once, they may ask you to fast for a specific period of time prior to a blood test.
- Drink adequate water before sample collection.
- Avoid vigorous physical activity before the sample collection.
- Follow the preparatory instructions as guided by your doctor.
What is the Cost of an HS-CRP Test ?
The Price of an HS-CRP Test is Rs. 500. However, cost of the test may fluctuate depending on following factors:
- Other tests advised along with HS-CRP Test
- Offers or discounts
- Empanelment of the patient
