Overview

ANA is useful in the diagnosis of patients with autoimmune diseases such as SLE, Mixed connective tissue disease, Rheumatoid arthritis, Sjogren's syndrome, Progressive systemic sclerosis and CREST syndrome. The incidence of low titre ANA positivity increases with age in normal individuals. Many drugs like Hydralazine and Procainamide may induce ANA production

What is the ANA - IFA Test ?

Evaluating patients at-risk for antinuclear antibodies-associated systemic autoimmune rheumatic disease particularly systemic lupus erythematosus, Sjogren syndrome, and mixed connective tissue disease. ANA may rarely also be detectable following viral illnesses, in chronic infections, or in patients treated with many different medications.

What is the Purpose of the ANA - IFA Test ?

An ANA test is used to determine, measure, and assess the amount of ANA present in your blood sample. In addition to helping doctors diagnose autoimmune illnesses, ANA testing can reveal information that could help identify your particular autoimmune disorder type. If you experience signs of an autoimmune disease, you can be recommended to undergo an ANA test.

When is an ANA - IFA Test Recommended ?

The following are the conditions that can be diagnosed by ANA - IFA Test: 
  • Systemic lupus erythematosus
  • Sjögren’s syndrome
  • Polymyositis and dermatomyositis
  • Juvenile idiopathic arthritis
  • Raynaud’s phenomenon

Preparation for ANA - IFA Test

  • Overnight fasting is preferred before the ANA - IFA Test. 
  • Other blood tests can be carried out in addition to a ANA - IFA Test. If your doctor advises you to have multiple tests at once, they may ask you to fast for a specific period of time prior to a blood test.
  • Drink adequate water before sample collection.
  • Avoid vigorous physical activity before the sample collection..
  • Follow the preparatory instructions as guided by your doctor.
