Allergic Bronchopulmonary Aspergillosis (ABPA) is an immune-mediated pulmonary disorder caused by hypersensitivity to Aspergillus fumigatus (Af) that complicates the course of patients with asthma and cystic fibrosis (CF). It presents with varied clinical and radiological manifestations usually with uncontrolled asthma, recurrent pulmonary infiltrates with or without bronchiectasis. In susceptible hosts, an allergic response is evoked by repeated inhalation of Aspergillus spores. Af antigens elicits a polyclonal antibody response which is largely responsible for elevated levels of total IgE as well as Af-IgE and Af-IgG antibodies.
