SGOT (AST)

Overview

SGOT (AST), or Aspartate Aminotransferase, is an enzyme found primarily in the liver, heart, muscles, and kidneys. Elevated SGOT levels in the blood can indicate liver damage or disease, as well as conditions affecting the heart or muscles. This test is commonly used to evaluate liver function and monitor for liver disorders, especially when combined with other liver enzyme tests like SGPT (ALT).
