Overview
It is an immunochromatographic assay for the detection of dengue NS1 antigens and IgM/IgG antibodies against Dengue virus in human serum, plasma or whole blood specimen
What is the Dengue Rapid Test Antigen (NS-1) & Dengue Antibody (IgM, IgG) Test ?
It is an Immunochromatographic assay for the detection of Dengue NS1 antigens and IgM/IgG antibodies against Dengue virus in human Serum, Plasma, or whole blood specimens. This test is intended for use as an aid in the early diagnosis and differentiation of Dengue virus infection.
What is the Purpose of the Dengue Rapid Test Antigen (NS-1) & Dengue Antibody (IgM, IgG) Test ?
This test is often advised to
diagnose Dengue Fever, particularly if you are experiencing Fever after travel to a tropical or subtropical destination.
When is a Dengue Rapid Test Antigen (NS-1) & Dengue Antibody (IgM, IgG) Test Recommended ?
When a high Fever strikes within two weeks of visiting a region where Dengue Fever is endemic or an outbreak is taking place.
Preparation for Dengue Rapid Test Antigen (NS-1) & Dengue Antibody (IgM, IgG) Test
- Unless otherwise directed by your doctor, there is no need for you to make any special preparations before the Dengue Rapid Test Antigen (NS-1) & Dengue Antibody (IgM, IgG) Test.
- Other blood tests can be carried out in addition to a Dengue Rapid Test Antigen (NS-1) & Dengue Antibody (IgM, IgG) Test. If your doctor advises you to have multiple tests at once, they may ask you to fast for a specific period of time prior to a blood test.
- Drink adequate water before sample collection.
- Follow the preparatory instructions as guided by your doctor.
What is the Cost of a Dengue Rapid Test Antigen (NS-1) & Dengue Antibody (IgM, IgG) Test ?
The Price of a Dengue Rapid Test Antigen (NS-1) & Dengue Antibody (IgM, IgG) Test is Rs. 1000. However, cost of the test may fluctuate depending on following factors:
- Other tests advised along with Dengue Rapid Test Antigen (NS-1) & Dengue Antibody (IgM, IgG) Test
- Offers or discounts
- Empanelment of the patient
Components of Dengue Rapid Test Antigen (NS-1) & Dengue Antibody (IgM, IgG) Test
- NS1 Antigen: Early on in the infection process, the Dengue Virus releases NS1, a non-structural protein, into the Bloodstream. It is helpful for early diagnosis, usually within the first 1–7 days after symptoms start, because its presence indicates active viral replication.
- IgM Antibody: The immune system responds to a recent Dengue infection by producing Immunoglobulin M (IgM). It usually manifests three to five days after the onset of symptoms and is indicative of a recent or active infection.
- IgG Antibody: Usually appearing after the acute phase of infection, Immunoglobulin G (IgG) can last for months or even years. Its presence aids in determining the patient's history of dengue infections by indicating prior exposure to dengue or a secondary infection.
Interpreting the Dengue Rapid Test Antigen (NS-1) & Dengue Antibody (IgM, IgG) Test Results
Following are the interpretations of Dengue Rapid Test Antigen (NS-1) & Dengue Antibody (IgM, IgG) Test:
- NS1 Positive: Indicates an active Dengue infection, typically within the first 1-7 days of illness. This suggests the virus is present in the Bloodstream, making it an early diagnostic marker.
- IgM Positive: Indicates a recent Dengue infection. IgM antibodies usually appear 3-5 days after the onset of symptoms and can remain detectable for several weeks, signifying an ongoing or recent infection.
- IgG Positive: Indicates a past infection or a secondary Dengue infection (if IgG appears alongside IgM). IgG antibodies develop later and persist for months or even years, suggesting that the body has been previously exposed to the virus.
- NS1 Negative and IgM Positive: Likely represents a Dengue infection in a later stage, as NS1 may no longer be detectable, but IgM confirms recent exposure.
- NS1 Negative and IgG Positive: Indicates either a past infection or a secondary Dengue infection if there are no accompanying IgM antibodies.
- NS1, IgM, and IgG Negative: Suggests no current or past Dengue infection, or the infection is in its very early stages, before the body has produced detectable levels of antigens or antibodies.
How is the Dengue Rapid Test Antigen (NS-1) & Dengue Antibody (IgM, IgG) Test Done ?
The Blood Sample for Dengue Rapid Test Antigen (NS-1) & Dengue Antibody (IgM, IgG) Test is taken in following steps:
- The area where the Needle will be inserted to take your Blood is cleaned with an Antiseptic Alcohol wipe. The hollow on the inside side of the Elbow or the tip of the Finger are the most common sites for this.
- A tourniquet or a Band is tied around your upper Arm to facilitate the access to the Vein in your Arm.
- A Needle is used to puncture your Vein. The Blood Sample is collected into a test tube attached to the Needle. The Needle may cause a small pinch or sting when it is inserted.
- Once the Vial or test tube is filled, the Blood Sample collection for the test is finished and the Needle is taken out.
- Finger pressure is applied on the puncture site to stop the bleeding and the Band aid is applied at the site.
- Then the Blood Sample is spread onto a Glass slide as thin Blood film.
- The slide is then treated with a special stain to characterize the type of Parasite.
- Using a Microscope, the Blood Cells and Parasite evaluation is done by a trained clinical laboratory scientist (CLS) or a Pathologist.
